Artist Spotlight - Sam Ostler

Location: Solihull, England | Genres: Contemporary Pop, EDM

Sam Ostler is a dynamic artist whose music fuses the emotional weight of classic piano ballads with the uplifting energy of arena-ready pop. Drawing inspiration from icons like Elton John, U2, and Coldplay, Sam has carved out a sound that’s both timeless and distinctly his own. His 2024 UK tour alongside Gabrielle and the BBC Radio 2 debut of all five of his recent singles marked a breakout year — one that firmly established him as a rising force in the UK music scene.

With a voice that moves effortlessly between tender vulnerability and anthemic power, Sam’s music resonates with a wide audience. His performances alongside legends like The Stylistics and The Three Degrees have brought him in front of over 50,000 fans. At the same time, his latest single Closer earned a coveted spot on BBC Radio 2’s New To 2 Playlist, championed by Jeremy Vine and Malcolm Prince.

World To Me is Sam’s most recent release — a heartfelt anthem that celebrates the people and moments that shape our lives. With its soaring chorus, rich instrumentation, and deeply personal lyrics, the track has resonated with listeners and curators alike.

Sam's Advice for Other Artists

Q: What strategies have you found most effective for promoting your music to new audiences?

To reach new audiences, I focus on three key strategies: videos, press outreach, and radio. Visual content—like music videos and short clips for TikTok and Instagram—helps grab attention and expand my reach quickly. Press releases allow me to tell the story behind the music and have led to features in blogs and local media. Radio interviews, especially with indie and college stations, offer a personal connection and a chance to share live performances or premieres. Together, these approaches create multiple ways for new listeners to discover my music.

Q: What advice would you give to artists looking to connect with curators and industry professionals?

My biggest advice is to lead with genuine connection, not just self-promotion. Do your research—know who the curators or professionals are, what they focus on, and how your music aligns with their work. When you reach out, keep it personal and professional: a short, respectful message with a link to your best work, a press kit, and a brief intro about who you are and why you’re reaching out. Be patient and persistent, but not pushy. Also, show up to industry events, panels, and showcases—building relationships in person can be just as powerful as online outreach. Ultimately, being authentic, prepared, and respectful goes a long way in making lasting connections.

Q: What challenges have you faced in promoting your music?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is cutting through the noise. With so much music being released every day, it can be hard to stand out—even when you have something meaningful to share. Budget limitations have also made it tough to invest in things like video production, PR, or digital ads. Learning to promote myself while still staying creative has been a balancing act. Another challenge is getting the right people to actually listen—curators, press, or even new fans. Sometimes it feels like you’re sending your music into a void. But over time, I’ve learned that consistency, authentic storytelling, and building real relationships make the biggest difference.

Q: What role does collaboration play in growing your audience and network?

Collaboration has been a huge part of growing both my audience and my network. Working with other artists, producers, or even content creators allows me to tap into new fan bases while building meaningful connections in the industry. Every collab is a chance to learn, cross-promote, and reach listeners who might not have discovered my music otherwise. It also adds fresh creative energy to my work, which keeps things exciting for both me and my audience. Beyond the music itself, collaborations open doors—whether it's being introduced to new curators, getting booked for shows, or simply building a stronger community around what I do.

Q: What platforms or tools have you found most useful for promoting your music?

Social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube have been essential for building an audience and sharing my music in creative ways. Each one offers a different way to connect—short-form videos on TikTok, visual storytelling on Instagram, and full content drops or music videos on YouTube. I also use Spotify for Artists and SubmitHub to pitch songs to curators and playlists. Email newsletters help me stay in touch with fans directly, and tools like Linktree or Koji make it easy to share all my links in one place. Overall, the key has been using the right platform for the right purpose—and staying consistent.
