Artist Spotlight - Catlea

Location: Cincinnati, USA | Genres: Indie, Indie-Pop, Indie-Rock

With over 10 million streams and a million YouTube views, Catlea has emerged as a powerful voice in the indie-pop space — one that’s as emotionally raw as it is sonically adventurous. Their music is a lifeline for those who feel unseen, offering a reminder that self-expression, in any form, is a path to belonging. Whether through shimmering pop hooks or introspective lyricism, Catlea’s work is a call to find your tribe and stand in your truth.

Their debut album Language Barrier is the culmination of three years of meticulous songwriting and production, created in collaboration with Jason Boshoff (Ed Sheeran, Josh Groban) and Oscar Garcia-Bragado in Barcelona. The result is a ten-track journey through heartbreak, miscommunication, and self-discovery — a record that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.

Singles like Lying, Crumbling, and Why Them? showcase Catlea’s ability to blend indie-pop, rock, and soulful R&B textures into something entirely their own. From the swaggering defiance of Lying to the anthemic resilience of Crumbling, each track is a chapter in a larger story of healing and empowerment.

Reflecting on their experience, Catlea shared:

“Musosoup is an essential tool for our marketing efforts. The content creators and curators are awesome. We use them for every Catlea release with great success.”

Cattle also has some great advice for new artists starting out when it comes to music promotion (scroll to the bottom of this article to get more music promotion tips from her):

"It’s important to have a good mix of playlisting, online interviews, and reviews along with lots of activity on social media like InstaGram, Facebook, and TikTok."

Catlea x Musosoup

Catlea has partnered with Musosoup across four campaigns, using the platform to extend their reach and cultivate deeper connections with curators, tastemakers, and music fans worldwide. The impact of these campaigns has been consistently impressive. Their single Why Them? became a standout success, garnering 67 reviews, landing on 78 playlists, and securing 31 features, along with 12 news pieces and two interviews that helped elevate the release beyond the usual promotional circuits. This momentum carried into the Bones EP, which drew in 33 reviews, earned 55 playlist placements, and received 17 editorial features, reinforcing Catlea’s place in the indie music conversation.

The follow-up single Crumbling maintained that trajectory, bringing in 26 reviews, 44 playlist adds, and 15 editorial features, while also offering Catlea an opportunity to deepen their audience connection through three interviews.

Earlier in their journey, the track Lying showcased both lyrical bite and sonic clarity, with 19 reviews, 38 playlist placements, 14 features, and an impressive 12 social media shoutouts, a testament to the song’s message of self-worth and honesty.

In their review of Language Barrier, Clout praised Catlea’s “emotional mastery” and “swaggering indie-pop feel,” noting Lying as a standout moment of reclamation and empowerment. Obscure Sound called the album “an enveloping success,” highlighting the “infectious bridge” of Bones and the “poignant impact” of Why Them?, which poses the aching question, “Why them, not me?” with remarkable clarity and resonance. While Flex Music described Language Barrier as “a striking debut album that weaves together indie-pop and rock with a deeply introspective edge.”

Whether through playlist placements, editorial features, or radio support, Musosoup has helped Catlea bring their music to a global audience — one that continues to grow with every release.

Catlea's Music Promotion Tips

Music promotion isn’t one-size-fits-all. Here, Cattle opens up about the tactics they've tried, lessons learned, and tips that you might find useful.

Q: What strategies have you found most effective for promoting your music to new audiences?

It’s important to have a good mix of playlisting, online interviews, and reviews along with lots of activity on social media like InstaGram, Facebook, and TikTok.

Q: What advice would you give to artists looking to connect with curators and industry professionals?

It takes a lot of effort, which most musicians don’t want to do or have time for. Finding someone you trust who can do that for you is good. But also use services with a wide range of offerings. We really like Musosoup for its diversity of curators, social media creators/influencers, and online music blogs. The biggest success factor is matching your music to the curators and their playlist genres. No matter how great your song is, if its say indie pop, it’s not going to be approved for hip hop lists, heavy metal, or any genres that are not aligned with the playlist, which makes sense—you don’t go into McDonald’s looking for shrimp scampi.

Q: What challenges have you faced in promoting your music?

The biggest challenge is that there are a lot of disreputable people and services out there willing to take your money and disappear. There are also people posing as curators trying to sell playlist slots. Don’t do it. Usually that’s a scam.

Q: What role does collaboration play in growing your audience and network?

Music, by its nature is collaborative. The way songs are written, recorded and produced requires creative input from all kinds of sources. It’s the same with music promotion. You have to be willing to partner with people and share your vision, and then let them use their resources to help you succeed.

Q: What platforms or tools have you found most useful for promoting your music?

Catlea’s music team uses all kinds of resources including Musosoup, which is one our faves, and we look at metrics everyday from SongStat, Spotify for Artists, Apple for Artists, and the strong social media tools built into Meta products.
