What Are Free and Paid Coverage Options?

Musosoup offers a unique model where curators can approach artists with offers for coverage and promotion. Our goal is to create a fair and transparent system that empowers artists to promote their music in an affordable, sustainable way—while helping curators earn a living doing what they love: discovering and championing new music.

We’re challenging outdated PR models where artists often pay large fees to gatekeepers for access and exposure. Instead, we give control back to artists, and offer a more grassroots-friendly ecosystem that supports a wider network of independent curators.

Why Paid Coverage Exists

Music is subjective. We’ve built a system where curators only approach artists they genuinely want to support. Every submission is vetted by our team to ensure the release is ready for promotion, and curators must operate with integrity—offering real value and transparency.

When curators make an offer, they may request a small fee to cover their time, platform costs, or content production. These contributions help them maintain their websites, grow their teams, run social and ad campaigns, and expand their reach. In today’s fragmented media landscape, this support is vital—especially when a wide range of smaller curators, not just a few major outlets, are responsible for breaking new music.

Artists always have full control. They’re free to accept, decline, or discuss the offer with the curator directly.

Free Alternatives

To keep the system fair and trustworthy, every paid offer must come with a free alternative. These are usually smaller-scale placements such as playlisting, a social post, or a short-form review.

If the artist chooses the free alternative instead of the paid offer, the curator is still required to deliver it. This ensures curators only approach artists they genuinely want to support, regardless of payment. If the offer is declined entirely, no coverage is delivered—paid or free.

Free alternatives are essential to maintaining the integrity of the system, and ensuring every artist is treated with respect.

Free Coverage

Curators can also choose to cover music they love without making an offer. They may write a review, share a post, or feature a song simply because it resonated with them. When this happens, they can submit the coverage to appear in your campaign report—no offer required.

Summary

Musosoup’s model blends free and paid coverage in a way that supports both artists and curators. Artists stay in control and only work with curators who genuinely believe in their music, while curators are fairly rewarded for their time and effort. Every paid offer includes a free alternative, helping keep the ecosystem honest, sustainable, and focused on good music.
