Spotify is offering a year of free resources to indie artists on its Fresh Finds playlists. The new program, called Fresh Finds Forward, goes beyond a simple playlist placement - pairing it with tools, studio access, and support artists can use for a full 12 months. Here's what the program actually includes, how artists qualify, and what it signals for the wider independent music landscape.
What Fresh Finds Forward actually is
Spotify has launched a program called Fresh Finds Forward, aimed at giving roughly 10,000 emerging independent artists a year of real, practical support beyond a playlist placement. The program sits on top of Spotify's existing Fresh Finds discovery playlists, which have been running for over a decade and have featured more than 80,000 artists across 127 countries. Artists who have appeared on a Fresh Finds playlist from January 1, 2026 onward are eligible to join through the Spotify for Artists dashboard.
Once onboarded, artists receive 12 months of benefits. The entry point is a Fresh Finds placement, and for artists hoping to be considered, Spotify says the best way to get music in front of its editors is to pitch an upcoming release through Spotify for Artists.
What you actually get
Participants get early access to some Spotify tools, prioritized access to tour or music video partnerships, a Fresh Finds badge on their artist profile, invitations to in-person and virtual events with Spotify staff and alumni, premium access to LANDR Studio Pro and Splice's Creator Plan, and six months of free therapy through BetterHelp.
Free studio time is limited to US-based artists, at studios including Electric Lady Studios in New York, The Lighthouse at Ocean Way Nashville, and Spotify Studios in Los Angeles. That is a significant geographic limitation worth noting if you are based outside the US: the software access, therapy, and event invitations still apply globally, but the physical studio benefit does not.
The numbers behind the playlists
Fresh Finds playlists have been active on Spotify for more than a decade, providing a platform for over 80,000 artists across 127 countries. Since 2024, these playlists have driven over 128 million new artist discoveries, and more than half of the artists end up being programmed on other editorial playlists.
Spotify said in May 2025 that more than 18,000 artists from 127 countries were featured on Fresh Finds playlists in 2024 alone, well above the roughly 10,000 a year it expects to take into the new program. Spotify has not said how it will narrow that field. That gap is worth keeping in mind: a Fresh Finds placement does not automatically mean a spot in Fresh Finds Forward.
Why this matters for independent artists everywhere
The perks themselves are useful, but what makes this worth paying attention to is what it signals. Spotify is the world's most-used music streaming service, and it is now tying tangible, real-world resources to editorial recognition. That changes the stakes of a playlist placement from a streaming bump to something that can affect your recording budget, your mental health support, and your visibility to the platform's own partnerships team.
The pitch tool inside Spotify for Artists is free to use and open to any artist with a release in the pipeline. If you are not using it ahead of every release, you are leaving open a door that costs nothing to knock on.
