Charlie Ashcroft’s Musosoup Round-Up April 2025

Let’s start with Gingham, a talented five-piece straddling the worlds of folk and dreampop to stunning effect with their latest single ‘Lucky’. Definitely a band to watch out for in the months ahead!

The past month also saw the release of the 80s synthpop-inflected collaboration between Frankfurt resident Luke Tangerine and Leicester-based artist ndge. Enjoy ‘To Be Yours’ in all its anthemic glory.

Megan Wheeler made a triumphant return earlier this year, with the club-ready  dance track ‘Now That I’m Gone’ In Kate February. Now she’s back with ‘Acceptance of You’, a more reflective slice of soulful, downtempo pop.

Melbourne singer Magdalia came out with an absolutely stunning song too. ‘housewife’ is her first single of 2025 and illustrates her songwriting prowess superbly well.

Likewise HELN, whose combination of piano and strings serves as a lovely backdrop to new track ‘You Caught My Eye’. A really engaging listen from start to finish.

Taking things in a more electronic direction, the formidable John Rohek produced a beautiful record in the shape of ‘Your Mother’s Maiden Name’, further enhancing his reputation as one of the most innovative artists in London at the moment.

‘i can be your lady’ is the latest single from Baltimore-based outfit Plant Dad, fusing ethereal vocals with some jaw-dropping soundscapes. A hugely impressive slab of envelope-pushing pop on display here.

After a couple of years out of the musical spotlight, Juno Lev made a great comeback last month with a glorious piece of folk-inspired electronic pop. Make ‘Licorice’ a priority in your next playlist!

I was a big fan of Jaz’s ‘Why Not?’ EP when it came out in April last year. Fast forward 12 months to April 2025, and there’s some new material to share; ‘Regression’ is an acoustic anthem which I keep returning to.

Finally this month, the excellent Ryan Yingst, whose folk & strings stomper ‘U-Haul’ really caught my attention when I was going through the latest Musosoup submissions a couple of weeks back. It’s another brilliant release from the Philadelphia-based songwriter.
